Google allows each listing to have 10 total categories, so you aren’t going to be able to add all of these.

Before selecting categories, it’s important to know how to optimize your Google My Business listing to get the most out of your optimizations.

You’ll likely want to have the same primary category as the top competitors. This is almost always going to be Auto repair shop.

You’ll want to select additional categories that are most relevant to your business, and the ones that are the most profitable.

For example, one category that might be applicable is “car battery store,” but just because your shop sells and/or installs car batteries doesn’t mean it should one of your Google My Business categories. This is because selling car batteries probably isn’t one of your primary services – if it is, then you would add it as a secondary GMB category.

Pro Tip:

You can use BrightLocal to track all of your local rankings, on-page SEO efforts, and local citations in a single dashboard.

After you’ve chosen your primary and secondary Google My Business categories, create services pages for them on your website. For example, if you offer “break repair services,” create a page on your website dedicated to break repair services.

Completing these optimizations will improve your chances of ranking for target keywords.

Happy SEO-ing 🙂
